Dosage/Direction for Use

Duodenal & esophageal ulcer 30 mg once daily for 4 wk. Gastric ulcer 30 mg once daily for 8 wk. Patient w/ liver function impairment Max: 30 mg daily.

Administration

Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take in the morning before a meal.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Exclude possibility of malignancy in the stomach prior to initiation of treatment. May mask symptoms of malignancy & delay diagnosis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.

Adverse Reactions

Enterochromaffin-like cell (ECL) growth in large doses & prolonged use, excessive bacterial growth in digestive system; headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, bloating, dizziness, skin rash, urticaria, pruritus; transient elevation in LFT values; arthralgia, peripheral edema, depression; thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, leukopenia.

Drug Interactions

Can prolong elimination of drugs metabolized by CYP450 eg, diazepam, warfarin, phenytoin. Reduced bioavailability w/ OCs, phenytoin, theophylline, warfarin, antacids, sucralfate. Interferes w/ the absorption of ketoconazole, esters, ampicillin, Fe salt.
