Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Cryptococcal meningitis & infection Initially 400 mg then 200-400 mg once daily, usually for at least 6-8 wk. Candidemia, disseminated candidiasis & other invasive candidal infection Initially 400 mg then 200 mg daily, may be increased to 400 mg daily. Oropharyngeal candidiasis 50-100 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Continue treatment for longer periods in patients w/ severely compromised immune function. Atropic oral candidiasis associated w/ denture 50 mg once daily for 14 days concurrently w/ local antiseptic measures to the denture. Other candida infections of mucosa except genital candidiasis (eg, esophagitis, non-invasive bronchopulmonary infections, candiduria mucocutaneous candidiasis, etc) 50-100 mg daily for 14-30 days. Vag candidiasis & Candida balanitis 150 mg as a single dose. Prevention of candidiasis 50-400 mg once daily. Tinea pedis, corporis, cruris & dermal candida infections 150 mg once wkly or 50 mg once daily, up to 2-4 wk, for tinea pedis up to 6 wk. Tinea versicolor 50 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Childn >1 yr Superficial candidal infection 1-2 mg/kg. Systemic candidal/cryptococcal infection 3-6 mg/kg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Sensitivity to fluconazole or related azole compd, terfenadine, cisapride, astemizole, erythromycin, pimozide & quinidine.
Special Precautions
Galactose intolerance. Patient w/ liver or renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, flatulence, rash, headache, hepatotoxicity.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin, oral sulfonylureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, OCs, rifampicin, cyclosporins, theophylline, terfenadine, tacrolimus.
