Desloratadine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of nasal & non-nasal allergic rhinitis (including intermittent & persistent allergic rhinitis). Symptomatic relief of pruritus, reduction in number & size of hives in patient w/ urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Childn 6-11 yr 2.5 mg once daily. Syr Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr 10 mL once daily, 6-11 yr 5 mL once daily, 1-5 yr 2.5 mL once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to desloratadine or loratadine.
Special Precautions
Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation. Tab: History of seizures. Elderly. Syr: Not to be taken by patients w/ fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. Severe renal insufficiency. Childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, dry mouth. Tab: Pharyngitis, myalgia, somnolence, dysmenorrhea. Syr: Tachycardia, palpitations, psychomotor hyperactivity, seizures; abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia; hepatitis, elevations of liver enzymes, increased bilirubin; hypersensitivity reactions eg, anaphylaxis, angioedema, pruritus, rash, urticaria; diarrhoea, headache.
