Per vag ovule Metronidazole 500 mg, nystatin 100,000 IU
Indications/Uses
Mixed vag infections due to Trichomonas vaginalis & Candida albicans.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 vag ovule daily inserted into the vag for 7-10 days. Can be combined w/ metronidazole oral tab 250 mg twice daily during the same period.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Concurrently treat male partner where there is evidence of trichomonal infection in the male consort. Discontinue therapy when irritation occurs. Used after careful benefit-risk assessment in patients w/ severe hepatotoxicity/acute hepatic failure, including Cockayne syndrome. Patients w/ severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) including SJS & acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). Should not be given during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Only to be used as palliative therapy in the 2nd & 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI disorder, nervous system disorder, eye disorder, hepatobiliary disorders, skin & subcutaneous tissue disorder, blood & lymphatic system disorders, ear & labyrinth disorders. Hypersensitivity reactions (metronidazole use). Local irritation or sensitization (nystatin use).
