Bromocriptine mesylate
Indications/Uses
Hyperprolactinaemia. Premenstrual syndrome. Acromegaly. Parkinson's disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Hyperprolactinaemia 2.5 mg twice daily for 2 or 3 days or continued for 14 days. Premenstrual syndrome 2.5-5 mg daily for 1-5 wk. Acromegaly 5-20 mg 3 times daily. Parkinson's disease Wk 1: 1-1.25 mg at bedtime; wk 2: 2-2.5 mg at bedtime; wk 3: 2.5 mg twice daily; wk 4: 2.5 mg 3 times daily, then increase by 2.5 mg every 3-14 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ergot alkaloids.
Special Precautions
May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Orthostatic hypotension, nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, somnolence; constipation, indigestion, psychomotorial restlessness; (doses >20 mg) physical disorders, fatigue, erythromelalgia, diuresis.
Drug Interactions
Levodopa, erythromycin, OCs, alcohol.
