Cefepime HCl monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Adult ≥16 yr: Infections of lower resp tract, complicated upper & lower urinary tract, skin & skin structure, severe or complicated gynecological infections; septicemia; febrile neutropenia. Childn 2 mth-16 yr: Empiric treatment in febrile neutropenia; severe pneumonia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mild to moderate UTI 500 mg-1 g IV/IM 12 hrly. Mild to moderate infections other than UTI 1 g IM/IV 12 hrly. Severe infections 2 g IV 12 hrly. Very severe or life-threatening infections 2 g IV 8 hrly. Childn ≤40 kg 50 mg/kg 12 hrly Febrile neutropenia 50 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Allergic symptoms; renal impairment. Monitor renal function if administered concurrently w/ nephrotoxic drugs. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis & seizures, GI disturbances, abdominal pain, constipation, dyspnea, dizziness, paresthesia, genital pruritus, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, colitis, headache, fever, vaginitis, erythema, SJS.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, ampicillin, metronidazole, vancomycin, aminophylline.
