Allergy or hypersensitivity to amide type local anaesthetics or sodium metabisulfite in adrenaline-containing solutions.
Detection of suspected hypersensitivity by skin testing is of limited value. Epidural and spinal anaesthesia is contraindicated in patients with uncorrected hypotension.
Local anaesthetics techniques must not be used when there is infection in the region the proposed injection and/or in the presence of septicaemia.
Bupivacaine is contraindicated in obstetric paracervical block, intravenous regional anaesthesia (Bier's block) and all intravenous infusions.
General contraindications related to epidural anaesthesia, regardless of the local anaesthetic used, should be taken into account.
