Folic acid
Indications/Uses
Folic acid deficiency; supplement in pregnancy & lactation; any conditions w/ increased folic acid requirement; megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Folic acid deficiency Initially 0.25-1 mg/day. Maintenance: 0.25-0.5 mg/day. Supplement in pregnancy & lactation 0.5-1 mg/day. Megaloblastic anemia 0.5-1 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Pernicious anemia.
Special Precautions
Should not be used as monotherapy for megaloblastic anemia associated w/ vit B12 deficiency.
Adverse Reactions
Allergy or hypersensitivity reactions.
