Thymosin α-1 (Thymalfasin)
Indications/Uses
Treatment of chronic hepatitis B in patients w/ compensated hepatic disease & HBV replication. Adjuvant (immune response enhancer) for flu vaccination in immunocompromised &/or elderly patients. Adjuvant for both flu & hepatitis B vaccines in chronic haemodialysis patient who failed to achieve adequate antibody titres from previous immunisation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC inj only. Chronic hepatitis B 1.6 mg twice wkly w/ 3-4 days interval for 6 mth (52 doses) w/o interruption. Vaccine adjuvant 900 mcg/m2 (1.6 mg) twice wkly w/ 3-4 days interval & 1st dose given coincident w/ vaccine. Continue for 4 wk (total: 8 doses) after a single-dose vaccine immunisation regimen. For multidose vaccine immunisation regimen, continue twice wkly between vaccinations & for 3 wk (total: 5-6 doses) after last vaccination.
Contraindications
Immunosuppressed eg, transplant patient.

Adverse Reactions
Local discomfort at inj site. Rarely, erythema, transient muscle atrophy, polyarthralgia w/ hand oedema, rash.
