Per g Calcipotriol (as monohydrate) 50 mcg, betamethasone (as dipropionate) 0.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Topical treatment of scalp psoriasis in adults. Topical treatment of mild to moderate "non-scalp" plaque psoriasis vulgaris in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply to affected areas once daily for 4 wk on scalp areas & 8 wk on "non-scalp" areas. 1-4 g daily is sufficient for scalp treatment (4 g corresponds to 1 tsp). Max dose: 15 g daily. Max BSA to be treated: 30%.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Erythrodermic, exfoliative & pustular psoriasis. Patients w/ known disorders of Ca metabolism. Viral skin lesions (eg, herpes or varicella), fungal or bacterial skin infections, parasitic infections, skin manifestations in relation to TB, perioral dermatitis, atrophic skin, striae atrophicae, fragility of skin veins, ichthyosis, acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, rosacea, ulcers & wounds.
Special Precautions
Avoid concurrent treatment w/ other steroids. Adrenocortical suppression or impact on the metabolic control of DM may occur. Avoid application under occlusive dressings, on large areas of damaged skin, on mucous membranes or in skin folds. Hypercalcaemia may occur if the max daily dose (15 g) is exceeded. Avoid treatment of >30% of the body surface. Do not use on the skin of the face & genitals. Wash hands after each application to avoid accidental transfer to the face, mouth & eyes. Treat w/ antimicrobiological therapy when lesions become secondarily infected; discontinue if infection worsens. Risk of generalised pustular psoriasis or of rebound effects when discontinuing treatment. Increased risk of local & systemic corticosteroid adverse reactions w/ long-term use. No experience w/ use in guttate psoriasis. Limited experience of combination w/ other topical anti-psoriatic products at the same treatment area, other anti-psoriatic medicinal products administered systematically or w/ phototherapy. Limit or avoid excessive exposure to either natural or artificial sunlight. Contains butylhydroxytoluene (E321). Patients w/ severe renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Do not use on the breast when breast-feeding. Childn <18 yr.
