Indications/Uses
Adjunct to diet & exercise for the treatment of adults, adolescents & childn ≥10 yr w/ insufficiently controlled type 2 DM, as monotherapy when metformin is considered inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications, or in addition to other medicinal products for the treatment of DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Initially 0.6 mg once daily, increase dose to 1.2 mg after at least 1 wk. Max: 1.8 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Do not administer by IV or IM. Do not use in patients w/ type 1 DM or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Not a substitute for insulin. Associated w/ transient GI adverse reactions. Risk of developing acute pancreatitis. Reports of thyroid adverse events (eg, goitre), particularly in patients w/ pre-existing thyroid disease. Increased risk of hypoglycaemia in combination w/ a sulfonylurea or insulin. Potential risk of dehydration. Not recommended in patients w/ CHF NYHA class IV; inflammatory bowel disease & diabetic gastroparesis; ESRD; severe hepatic impairment. Advise patients to avoid hypoglycaemia while driving & using machines. Do not use during pregnancy & breast-feeding. No data available for childn <10 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, diarrhoea. Nasopharyngitis, bronchitis; hypoglycaemia, anorexia, decreased appetite; headache, dizziness; increased heart rate; vomiting, dyspepsia, abdominal pain upper, constipation, gastritis, flatulence, abdominal distension, GERD, abdominal discomfort, toothache; rash; fatigue, inj site reactions; increased lipase, increased amylase.
Drug Interactions
Clinically relevant interaction w/ active substances w/ poor solubility or narrow therapeutic index eg, warfarin cannot be excluded.
