Solifenacin succinate
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of overactive bladder, including strong, sudden urge to urinate w/o prior warning & frequent urinating or wetting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ liqd, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients suffering from urinary retention; severe stomach or bowel condition (including toxic megacolon); myasthenia gravis; glaucoma. Patients undergoing kidney dialysis. Patients w/ severe liver disease; severe kidney or moderate liver disease & concomitantly treated w/ medicines that may decrease Vesicare elimination.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if anaphylactic reactions &/or angioedema w/ airway obstruction occur. Patients suffering from bladder obstruction or difficulty in passing urine (eg, thin urine flow); constipation; at risk of digestive system slowing down (stomach & bowel movements); severe kidney disease; moderate liver disease; stomach tear (hiatus hernia) or heartburn; autonomic neuropathy. Patients w/ risk factors for QT prolongation eg, pre-existing abnormal ECG & high K levels. Do not use in patients w/ rare hereditary problem of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Do not use if breast-feeding. Do not use in childn or adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth. Blurred vision; constipation, nausea, indigestion, stomach discomfort.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced side effects w/ other anticholinergics. Reduced efficacy w/ cholinergics. Reduced efficacy of metoclopramide & cisapride. Decreased metabolic rate w/ ketoconazole, ritonavir, nelfinavir, itraconazole, verapamil & diltiazem. Increased metabolic rate w/ rifampicin, phenytoin & carbamazepine. Medicines that exacerbate or cause gullet inflammation eg, bisphosphonates.
