Energy: 240 kcal
Indications/Uses
As a source of amino acids for protein synthesis & of taurine in infants & childn requiring IV nutrition.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 40 kg body wt 14.5 mL/kg/day, 30 kg body wt 16 mL/kg/day, 20 kg body wt 18.5 mL/kg/day, 10 kg body wt 24 mL/kg/day. To be infused over at least 8 hr. Infant Up to 35 mL/kg/day. Gradually increase dosage during 1st wk of life then, infusion to be given continuously over 24 hr.
Contraindications
Inborn errors of amino acid metabolism, irreversible liver damage, severe uremia.
Special Precautions
Increased urinary excretion of copper & Zn during prolonged use.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, transient increase in liver tests, thrombophlebitis.
