Immediately stop treatment if serious allergic/hypersensitivity reactions occur. Should not be started until an acute attack of gout has completely subsided. Gout flare prophylaxis of at least 6 months is recommended. Not recommended in patients in whom the rate of urate formation is greatly increased; patients concomitantly treated w/ mercaptopurine/azathioprine; organ transplant recipients. Caution in patients w/ pre-existing major CV diseases (eg, MI, stroke or unstable angina) & regularly monitor for CV events. Perform liver function test prior to treatment initiation & periodically thereafter based on clinical judgment. Caution in patients w/ alteration of thyroid function. Patients w/ rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Patients w/ severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min); moderate or severe hepatic impairment. Do not use during pregnancy & while breast-feeding. Childn <18 yr.
