Risk of w/drawal symptoms. Do not abruptly stop treatment. May precipitate status epilepticus if discontinued abruptly. Use of benzodiazepines may lead to development of physical & psychic dependence. Avoid concomitant use w/ alcohol &/or CNS depressants. Caution in patients w/ history of alcohol or drug abuse; patients w/ spinal or cerebellar ataxia, in the event of acute intoxication w/ alcohol or drugs, & in patients w/ severe liver damage (eg, liver cirrhosis); patients w/ porphyria. Carefully adjust dose to individual requirements in patients w/ pre-existing disease of the resp system (eg, COPD) or liver & in patients undergoing treatment w/ other centrally-acting medications or anticonvulsant (antiepileptic) agents. May increase risk of suicidal thoughts & behavior. Patients w/ history of depression &/or suicide attempts should be kept under close supervision. Rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Administration of high doses in the last trimester of pregnancy or during labour can cause heartbeat irregularities in the unborn child, & hypothermia, hypotonia, mild resp depression & poor feeding in the neonate. Do not breastfeed while undergoing treatment. May cause increased production of saliva & bronchial secretion in infants & small childn.
