Contents
Na dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate 24.4 g, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate 10.8 g
Indications/Uses
For severe constipation. To prepare bowel for a surgical procedure or a bowel exam.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Always dilute the quantity indicated in around 120 mL of cold water. Laxative Adult & childn ≥12 yr 20 mL (4 tsp). Childn 10-11 yr 10 mL (2 tsp), 5-9 yr 5 mL (1 tsp). Bowel cleansing Adult ≥18 yr 45 mL. Use as directed. Start the dose a day before hospital appointment.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Nausea, vomiting & stomach ache. Do not use as bowel cleansing in childn <18 yr. Renal problems; primary hyperparathyroidism associated w/ high conc of Ca in blood; cardiac decompensation; ascites; known or suspected occlusion in the stomach or the bowel; megacolon; GI tract perforation; ileus; progressing inflammatory bowel disease. Do not use in combination w/ other laxatives containing Na phosphate.
Special Precautions
Patient should drink as much water as possible. Patients w/ heart disease eg, MI or angina pectoris; hypotension; dehydration; hypovolemia; slowing down of gastric or intestinal activity, decreased bowel transit time, bowel obstruction or active colitis; colon inflammation; fluid & electrolyte imbalance. Patients who do not absorb sufficient liqd. Patients on a Na-free diet. After a GI procedure. Patients who have artificial anus. Concomitant use w/ diuretics, some antihypertensives & NSAIDs, or other drugs which can affect renal perfusion or function. Dependency & intestinal problems in long-term use. Mild to moderate effect on the ability to drive cars or use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Patient >55 yr or frail people. Childn w/ congenital megacolon.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness; nausea, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhoea; tremor, body weakness. Headache; vomiting; chest pain.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives, medicines against heart diseases, diuretics, parathormone, lithium or other products susceptible of affecting electrolyte balance, medicines that modify heart rhythm. Delayed or hindered intestinal absorption of OCs, anti-epileptics, antidiabetics, antibiotics. Do not use concomitantly w/ other Na phosphate-based prep.
