Add-on therapy in patients w/ mild to moderate persistent asthma who are inadequately controlled on inhaled corticosteroids & in whom "as-needed" short-acting β-agonists provide inadequate clinical control. Symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis in asthmatic patients. Prophylaxis of asthma predominantly due to exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Do not use oral montelukast to treat acute asthma attacks. Do not abruptly substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. In rare cases, patients on therapy w/ anti-asthma agents, including montelukast, may present w/ systemic eosinophilia, sometimes presenting w/ clinical features of vasculitis consistent w/ Churg-Strauss syndrome. Treatment does not alter the need for patients w/ aspirin-sensitive asthma to avoid taking aspirin & other NSAIDs. Do not concomitantly use w/ other montelukast-containing products. Patients w/ rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
