Diflucortolone valerate
Indications/Uses
Skin ailments which respond to topical glucocorticoid therapy eg, psoriasis, lichen ruber planus & lichen verrucosus, lupus erythematosus chronicus discoides, insect bites.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially apply thinly bd-tds, then once daily upon improvement. Adult Use for not >3 wk. Do not apply for >1 wk over a large area (>10% body surface). Childn & adolescent Use for not >2 wk. Only apply on small areas (<10% body surface).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients suffering from specific skin diseases (TB, syphilis) in the area to be treated; viral infections (eg, herpes simplex, chicken pox, herpes zoster); rosacea, perioral dermatitis, ulcers, acne vulgaris, skin atrophies, & post-vaccination skin reactions in the area to be treated. Do not use on the face.
Special Precautions
Additional, specific therapy is required in bacterially-infected skin diseases &/or fungal infections. Avoid contact w/ eyes & application on the skin around the eyes. Glaucoma may develop. Caution in patients w/ history of glaucoma. Possibility of absorption & significantly increased risk of side effects during prolonged use (>4 wk) &/or treatment of large skin areas (about ≥10% body surface), especially under occlusive dressings. Do not use under occlusive conditions. Contains paraffin. May lead to +ve results in doping tests. Avoid during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Do not treat nursing mothers on the breasts. Childn. No proven safety & efficacy in infants up to 23 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Burning & irritation on administration site (uncommon).
