Per mL Tropicamide 5 mg, phenylephrine HCl 5 mg
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
To induce mydriasis 1-2 drops at a time, or 1 drop twice w/ 3-5 min interval between doses. To induce cycloplegia 1 drop 2-3 times w/ 3-5 min interval between doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ predisposition to ocular HTN eg, glaucoma, narrow angle & shallow anterior chamber.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN; arteriosclerosis; heart disease eg, coronary insufficiency & heart failure; diabetes; hyperthyroidism. Caution against operating potentially hazardous machinery eg, driving a car, until mydriasis or cycloplegia resolves. Advise patient to wear sunglasses or use other protection to avoid looking directly at sunlight or other intense light. Do not use the ophth soln if discoloration or precipitation occurs. Ped patients; low birth wt infants. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Blepharitis, eyelid dermatitis, itching, rash, urticaria; conjunctivitis, corneal epithelium disorder, IOP increased; thirst, nausea, vomiting; flushed face, tachycardia, BP increased, headache.
Drug Interactions
Rapid increase in BP w/ MAOIs (during treatment & for 3 wk after last dose of Mydrephrine-P); TCAs (eg, clomipramine HCl, amoxapine), tetracyclic antidepressants (eg, maprotiline HCl).
