Indications/Uses
Improves hypoalbuminemia nutriture w/ uncompensated hepatic cirrhosis presenting w/ hypoalbuminemia despite adequate dietary intake.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Congenital branched-chain amino acid metabolic abnormalities. Convulsions & resp disturbances may develop in patient w/ maple syrup urine disease. Stage III coma due to hepatic encephalopathy, total bilirubin level of ≥3 mg/dL, markedly depressed hepatic capacity of protein synthesis.
Special Precautions
Patient w/ restricted protein intake. Abnormal BUN or blood ammonia. Long-term administration & overdosage. Hypoalbuminemia. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly. Infants & childn.
Adverse Reactions
Sensation of abdominal bloating, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort & pain, vomiting, anorexia, heartburn; increased BUN & creatinine; increased serum AST (GOT), ALT (GPT) & total bilirubin; increased blood ammon; rash, pruritus; lassitude, edema.
