Hydroquinone
Indications/Uses
Gradual bleaching of hyperpigmented skin conditions eg, chloasma, melasma, freckles, senile lentigines & other unwanted areas of melanin hyperpigmentation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr Apply a thin layer of gel on small hyperpigmented surfaces. Childn Apply once daily for 10-15 days, only on the stain & continue the treatment w/ 2 daily applications, 1 in the morning & another at night.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patient receiving either professional or cosmetic treatment for any chemical hyperpigmentation eg, ochronosis (ochre skin tone) & colloid degeneration (colloid milium).
Special Precautions
Do not apply to open wounds, mucous membranes, irritated skin & sunburn. Avoid contact w/ the eyes & mucous membranes. Extensive pigmented area. Protect the treated area from the sun. Wash hands w/ soap after application as hydroquinone can cause reversible brown spots on the nails. Discontinue if darkening or transitory irritation of the skin persists. Contains propylene glycol, butylhydroxytoluene, Na sulphite anhydrous, & Na metabisulfite. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Ocassionally, erythema (reddening), stinging. Less frequently, skin sensitivity. On prolonged use, cutaneous hyperpigmentation reaction.
Drug Interactions
Temporary skin coloration w/ peroxides (eg, oxygenated water, benzoyl peroxide).
