Indications/Uses
Bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms: Aerobic gm +ve microorganisms: Corynebacterium spp, Staph aureus, Staph epidermidis, Strep pneumoniae, Strep (Groups C/F), Strep (Group G), Viridans group strep; Aerobic gm -ve microorganisms: Acinetobacter lwoffii, Haemophilus influenzae, Serratia marcescens.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Days 1 & 2: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 hr while awake, up to 8 times/day. Days 3-7: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 4 hr while awake, up to 4 times/day.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin & other quinolones.
Special Precautions
Reports of hypersensitivity. Not for inj. Do not inj subconjunctivally & do not introduce directly into the anterior chamber of the eye. Discontinue use & institute alternative therapy if superinfection occurs. Do not wear contact lenses if signs & symptoms of corneal ulcer manifest. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Transient decreased vision, fever, foreign body sensation, headache, transient ocular burning, ocular pain or discomfort, pharyngitis & photophobia.
Drug Interactions
Elevated plasma conc of theophylline. Interference w/ metabolism of caffeine. Enhanced effects of warfarin & its derivatives. Transient elevations in serum creatinine w/ cyclosporine.
