BCG (Tokyo 172 strain, dried)
Indications/Uses
Superficial urinary cancer, carcinoma in situ of the urinary bladder.
Dosage/Direction for Use
80 mg intravesically for up to 2 hr once wkly for 8 wk.
Contraindications
Traumatic catheterization or soon after transurethral resection (TUR) or biopsy of bladder tumor (associated w/ haematuria) in 7-14 days. Immunosuppressed patients. Active TB. Febrile illness, UTI or gross hematuria. Current or previous evidence of systemic BCG reactions. Fever of unknown origin. Concomitant immunosuppressant therapy or radiation. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Do not administer <7-14 days following TUR. Determine patient's reactivity to tuberculin prior to administration. Do not inject percutaneously, intracutaneously, SC, IM or IV. Renal impairment. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
BCG infections, interstitial pneumonia, systemic delayed-type hypersensitivity, contracted bladder, renal failure, Reiter's syndrome.
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants, immunosuppressive dose of steroids, cytotoxic drugs, radiation therapy, antimicrobials.
