Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.075-0.15 mL/kg body wt. Childn up to 15 yr & elderly patients A single dose of 0.075-0.1 mL/kg body wt. Interruption of status epilepticus or serial epileptic seizures 0.15 mL/kg body wt injected quickly ie, w/in 10 sec. Dose may be repeated if required.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to etomidate or fat emulsions.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ impaired biosynthesis of heme. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery for 24 hr after administration. Pregnancy & lactation. Newborn & infant up to 6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & vomiting, coughing, singultus & shivering. Myocloni are frequently observed in patients not having received appropriate premedication. Risk of transient adrenocortical insufficiency after prolonged continuous administration of etomidate.
Drug Interactions
Hypnotic effect is enhanced by neuroleptics, opioids, sedatives & alcohol.
