Indications/Uses
Adult Topical anaesth of skin in connection w/ intact skin prior to minor dermatological procedures & prior to dermal procedures on larger areas eg, split skin grafting; dermal procedures on newly shaven skin of large body areas eg, laser hair removal; genital mucosa eg, prior to superficial surgical procedures or prior to infiltration anaesth of mucosa; leg ulcers to facilitate mechanical cleansing/debridement. Neonate 0-2 mth, infants 3-11 mth & childn 1-11 yr Topical anaesth of the skin in connection w/ needle insertion eg, IV catheters or blood sampling & in superficial surgical procedures. Atopic dermatitis prior to curettage of mollusca.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thick layer on the skin & cover w/ occlusive dressing. Adult Approx 1.5 g/10 cm2. Minor procedures 2 g for 1-5 hr. Dermal surgical procedures on larger areas in a hospital setting Approx 1.5-2 g/10 cm2 for 2-5 hr. Dermal procedures on newly shaven skin of large body areas eg, laser hair removal Max: 60 g/600 cm2 for a min of 1 hr, max 5 hr. Surgical treatment of localised lesions & prior to inj of local anaesth in genital mucosa Approx 5-10 g for 5-10 min. No occlusive dressing required. Commence procedure immediately after removal of cream. Administer 10 g in lateral vaginal fornices for 10 min. Prior to inj of local anaesth in skin of male genital organs Apply a thick layer (1 g/10 cm2) w/ occlusive dressing for 15 min. Prior to inj of local anaesth in skin of female genital organs Apply a thick layer (1-2 g/10 cm2) w/ occlusive dressing for 60 min. Mechanical cleansing/debridement of leg ulcers Apply a thick layer, approx 1-2 g/10 cm2 up to a total of 10 g for 30-60 min w/ an occlusive dressing. Adolescents ≥12 yr Approx 2 g applied under an occlusive dressing for a min of 60 min, max 5 hr. Childn Minor procedures Approx 1 g/10 cm2 for 1 hr. Childn 6-11 yr Up to 20 g & 200 cm2 for 1-5 hr. Childn 1-5 yr Up to 10 g & 100 cm2 for 1-5 hr. Infants 3-11 mth Up to 2 g & 20 cm2 for 1 hr. Neonates 0-2 mth Up to 1 g & 10 cm2 for 1 hr. Prior to removal of mollusca in childn w/ atopic dermatitis Application time: 30 min.
Special Precautions
Should not be used in infants up to 12 mth receiving treatment w/ methaemoglobin-inducing drugs. Not recommended in pre-term infants.
