Mometasone furoate
Indications/Uses
Relief of the inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. The lotion may be applied to scalp lesions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream/Oint Patient ≥2 yr Apply a thin film to affected areas once daily until the lesion heals or for up to 3 wk if necessary. Lotion Apply a few drops to affected areas including the scalp once daily, massage gently & thoroughly until it disappears.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mometasone furoate, or to other corticosteroids.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth use. Discontinue treatment if irritation or sensitization develops. Risk of adrenal suppression; visual disturbance. Systemic absorption may be increased if extensive body surface areas are treated or if occlusive technique is used. Pregnancy & lactation. Chronic corticosteroid therapy may interfere w/ growth & development of childn.
Adverse Reactions
Cream Very rarely, paresthesia, pruritus, signs of skin atrophy. Oint Rarely, burning, pruritus, tingling/stinging, signs of skin atrophy. Lotion Rarely, burning, folliculitis, acneiform reaction, pruritus, signs of skin atrophy.
