ConstipationAdult & childn >10 yr 1-2 tab, 4-10 yr 1 tab. To be taken at night to facilitate bowel movement the following morning. Prep of diagnostic procedures & pre-opAdult 2-4 tab the night before exam, followed by an immediate relief laxative (eg, supp) in the morning of the exam. Childn ≥4 yr 1 tab in the evening & a paed immediate relief laxative (eg, supp) on the following morning.
Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid & electrolyte imbalance & hypokalaemia. Discontinue use & restart only under medical supervision in patients suffering from fluid loss (eg, renal insufficiency, elderly). Does not help w/ wt loss. Risk of haematochezia; dizziness &/or syncope. Rare hereditary conditions of galactose intolerance eg, galactosaemia; fructose intolerance. Avoid potentially hazardous tasks eg, driving or operating machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <10 yr.
Risk of dyspepsia & gastric irritation w/ antacids & milk products. Increased risk of electrolyte imbalance w/ diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids. Electrolyte imbalance may increase sensitivity to cardiac glycosides. Enhanced GI side effects w/ other laxatives.
