Ibandronic acid
Indications/Uses
Osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at increased risk of fracture.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once mthly, taken preferably on the same date each mth.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Swallow whole w/ a glass of plain water (180-240 mL) while sitting or standing in an upright position. Do not lie down for 1 hr after taking ibandronic acid. Do not take w/ mineral water. Do not chew/suck. Take after an overnight fast (at least 6 hr) & 1 hr before the 1st food or drink (other than water) of the day or any other oral medicinal products or supplementation (including Ca).
Special Precautions
Patient should receive supplemental Ca &/or vit D if dietary intake is inadequate. Reports of atypical subtrochanteric & diaphyseal femoral fractures, primarily w/ long-term treatment for osteoporosis. Not recommended for patients w/ CrCl <30 mL/min. No relevant indication of use in childn.
