Indications/Uses
Decrease elevated IOP in ocular HTN & open-angle glaucoma as monotherapy in patients unresponsive to β-blockers or in patients in whom β-blockers are contraindicated, or as adjunctive therapy to β-blockers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) bd-tds.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to brinzolamide, or to sulphonamides. Hyperchloraemic acidosis. Severe renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Immediately w/draw therapy in case of signs of serious reactions or hypersensitivity. Same types of adverse reactions attributable to sulphonamides may occur w/ topical administration. Reports of acid-base disturbances w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Not recommended in patients w/ narrow-angle glaucoma. Caution in patients w/ pseudoexfoliative glaucoma or pigmentary glaucoma; compromised corneas eg, patients w/ DM or corneal dystrophies; dry eyes; patients wearing contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to application & wait at least 15 min after instillation of the dose before reinsertion. Not recommended w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. If using >1 topical ophth medicinal product, administer at least 5 min apart. Eye oint should be administered last. Contains benzalkonium Cl. May impair ability to perform tasks requiring mental alertness &/or physical coordination. Minor influence on the ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended in patients w/ hepatic impairment. Not recommended during pregnancy & in women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Discontinue breast-feeding or discontinue/abstain from Azopt therapy. Not recommended in infants, childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision, eye irritation, eye pain, foreign body sensation in eyes, ocular hyperaemia; dysgeusia.
Drug Interactions
Acid-base disturbances w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Inhibited metabolism w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, ritonavir, troleandomycin).
