Contents
Zinc oxide, bismuth subgallate, balsam peru, bismuth oxide.
Description
Each 100-g ointment contains zinc oxide 10.75 g, bismuth subgallate 2.25 g, balsam peru 1.875 g and bismuth oxide 0.875 g. It also contains the following ingredients: Magnesium stearate, cocoa butter, anhydrous lanolin, castor oil, light kaolin and white petroleum jelly.
Each 2.8-g suppository contains zinc oxide 296 mg, bismuth subgallate 59 mg, balsam peru 49 mg and bismuth oxide 24 mg. It also contains the following ingredients: Hard fat, light kaolin, titanium dioxide (E171) and Miglyol 812.
Action
Zinc oxide is an astringent which soothes and protects raw areas and helps reduce swelling. It also acts as an antiseptic to prevent bacterial growth.
Bismuth salts are astringent and antiseptic and they also protect raw, irritated areas around the anal area.
Balsam peru is an antiseptic which has a protective action on sore areas and can promote healing.
Indications/Uses
Ointment: For the relief of pain, swelling, itch and irritation of internal and external piles (haemorrhoids) and other related conditions eg, anal itching.
Suppository: For the relief of pain, swelling, itch and irritation of internal piles (haemorrhoids) and other related conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Ointment: Adults and Elderly: Wash the anal area and dry carefully with a soft towel. Apply Anusol ointment to the affected area at night, in the morning and after each bowel movement. Anusol ointment should be applied on a gauze dressing. For internal piles, screw the nozzle provided on to the tube. Insert the nozzle into the back passage and squeeze gently. Clean the nozzle after each use.
For external use only.
Suppository: Adults and Elderly: Wash the anal area and dry carefully with a soft towel. Remove 1 supp from the plastic cover and insert as deeply into the back passage (anus) as possible. Use at night, in the morning and after each bowel movement.
Do not swallow.
Children: Anusol ointment and suppository should not to be used except on the advice of a doctor.
Contraindications
History of allergic reaction to Anusol or any of its ingredients.
Special Precautions
Take special care with Anusol if patient has rectal bleeding.
Use in pregnancy & lactation: Anusol may be used if pregnant or breastfeeding. As with all medicines at this time, patient should discuss with the doctor first.

Side Effects
Sensitivity reactions eg, rash; mild irritation or burning on application.
These are mild side effects, which will usually stop when patient stops using the ointment/suppositories.
Storage
Do not store above 25°C.
