Pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders

Severe renal or hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy and lactation. Dyspepsia, uncontrolled hypertension, G6PD deficiency and children .

CNS disturbances, GI disturbances, flushing, hyperventilation, sweating, dry mouth, rash and thrombocytopenic purpura. Tinnitus, ecchymosis, haemorrhagic lesions, leukopenia or thrombocytopenia in high doses.

Serum levels may be reduced when used with corticosteroids. Increased risk of adverse effects when used with other NSAIDs.

May interfere with thyroid function tests.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Salicylamide is a salicylic acid derivative but it is not hydrolysed to salicylate. Salicylate-like analgesic and antipyretic effects are inconsistent due to rapid and extensive metabolism during absorption. It may also produce hypotensive effects, through dilation of peripheral blood vessels, and CNS depression.
Pharmacokinetics:
Metabolism: Almost completely metabolised to inactive metabolites during absoption and first pass through the liver.
