Chỉ định và Liều dùng
Oral
Hepatic encephalopathy Adult: As adjunctive therapy: 4 g daily in divided doses at regular intervals for 5-6 days. Oral Intestinal amoebiasis Adult: 25-35 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses for 5-10 days.
Child: Same as adult dose. |

Cách dùng
Should be taken with food. Take during meals.

Chống chỉ định
Hypersensitivity to paromomycin and other aminoglycosides. Intestinal obstruction.

Thận trọng
Patient w/ ulcerative bowel lesions. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Renal impairment. Pregnancy and lactation.

Tác dụng không mong muốn
Ototoxicity, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, epigastric burning and pain, increased GI motility, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, pruritus ani, hypocholesterolaemia, malabsorption of xylose and sucrose, abnormal fat metabolism, headache, vertigo, eosinophilia, exanthema, unexplained haematuria.
Potentially Fatal: Pseudomembranous colitis, nephrotoxicity, neuromuscular blockade. |

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Paromomycin acts directly on amoeba. It has antibacterial activity against normal and pathogenic organisms in the GI tract and interferes w/ bacterial protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomal subunits. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Poorly absorbed from the GI tract. Excretion: Via faeces (approx 100% of the dose, as unchanged drug); via urine (approx 0.1%). |
