Ophthalmic
Surface anaesthesia Adult: As 0.4% soln: For tonometry: Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 1 min before measurement. For contact lens fitting: Additional drop 90 sec before fitting. For removal of foreign body or minor surgery: Instill 3 drops at 90 sec interval. For pterygium surgery: Instill 1 drop every min for 10 doses.
Child: Same as adult dose. |

Preterm neonate.

Patient w/ eye infection. Prolonged use. Childn. Pregnancy and lactation.

Tác dụng không mong muốn
Significant: Corneal damage, keratitis and tolerance (w/ prolonged use).
GI: Occasional nausea, vomiting, dysphagia. Ophthalmologic: Transient stinging and burning sensation, blurred vision; stromal infiltration, candida/disciform keratitis, oedema, peripheral corneal formation, epithelial corneal damage (frequent use). Immunologic: Allergic reactions (e.g. contact allergy, urticaria, angioneurotic oedema). |

This drug may cause transient blurring of vision, if affected, do not drive or operate machinery. Avoid dust and bacterial contamination of anaesthetised eye.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Oxybuprocaine, a para-aminobenzoic acid ester, is a local, surface anaesthesia. It reversibly inhibits the conduction of nerve impulses along nerve axons and the excitability of nociceptors thereby reducing pain sensation. Onset: Approx 1 min. Duration: 20-40 min. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Rapidly and readily absorbed into systemic circulation. Metabolism: Metabolised by plasma cholinesterases; to a lesser extent, metabolised in the liver mainly to 3-butoxy-4-aminobenzoic acid and other metabolites. |
