Per 5 mL Dextromethorphan HBr 5 mg, diphenhydramine HCl 10 mg, ammon Cl 125 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of dry, unproductive cough.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2 tsp (10 mL) 4 hrly. Max: 12 tsp (60 mL)/day. Childn 6-12 yr 1 tsp (5 mL) 4 hrly. Max: 6 tsp (30 mL)/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other antihistamines. Asthma, lower resp tract infections. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs. Newborn or premature infants. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Hepatic disease; persistent or chronic cough eg occurs w/ smoking, asthma or emphysema or w/ excessive secretions; epilepsy, glaucoma, difficulty in urination due to prostate gland enlargement. Narrow-angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstructions, symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck obstruction. Atropine-like actions, bronchial asthma, increased IOP, hyperthyroidism, CV disease or HTN. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Childn <2 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Occasionally drowsiness, dizziness, excitation, mental confusion & GI disturbances. Resp depression (high doses).
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, CNS depressants, antimuscarinic drugs eg, atropine & TCAs. Alcohol.
