Famotidine
Indications/Uses
Treatment of active duodenal & benign ulcers; pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & multiendocrine adenomas. Maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal & gastric ulcers 40 mg daily at bedtime for 4-8 wk. Maintenance: 20 mg once daily at bedtime. GERD Initially 20-40 mg bd for 6-12 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 20 mg 6 hrly. Adult patient w/ moderate (CrCl <50 mL/min) or severe (CrCl <10 mL/min) renal insufficiency May be reduced to ½ the dose or dosing interval may be prolonged to 36-48 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Moderate or severe renal impairment. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Palpitation, bronchospasm, musculoskeletal pain, arthralgia, dizziness, fever, asthenia, fatigue, headache, hypersensitivity reactions; GI, nervous system & hematologic disturbances, skin problems.
Drug Interactions
Antacid, probenecid.
