Indications/Uses

Dosage/Direction for Use
Amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding (due to hormonal imbalance in absence of organic pathology) 5-20 mg starting w/ day 5 of menstrual cycle & ending on day 25. Endometriosis Initially 10 mg daily for 2 wk w/ increments of 5 mg/day at 2-wk interval until 30 mg/day is reached.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic disorders, cerebral apoplexy. Known or suspected breast carcinoma. Undiagnosed vag bleeding, missed abortion. As diagnostic test for pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Breakthrough bleeding, spotting, menstrual flow changes, amenorrhea, oedema, changes in wt, cervical mucous & secretion; cholestatic jaundice, rash w/ or w/o pruritus, melasma or chloasma, mental depression, nausea, headache, visual disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Rifampicin, INH, ampicillin, tetracycline, neomycin, penicillin, chloramphenicol, sulphonamides, nitrofurantoin, barbiturates, phenytoin, primidone, analgesics, tranquiliser, antimigraine prep & antihistamines. Oral anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, TCAs, antihypertensives (eg guanethidine), vit, hypoglycaemic agents, hypnotic prep & theophylline.
