Azithromycin dihydrate
Indications/Uses
Upper resp tract infections including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis & otitis media; lower resp tract infections including bronchitis, pneumonia; skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult & childn >14 yr (>45 kg) 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Susp Childn 12-14 yr (36-45 kg) 10 mL, 8-11 yr (26-35 kg) 7.5 mL, 3-7 yr (15-25 kg) 5 mL, 6 mth-3 yr (up to 15 kg) 10 mg/kg. Doses to be taken once daily for 3 days.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hepatic disease.
Special Precautions
Hepatic & severe renal impairment. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI effects eg, nausea, abdominal discomfort, vomiting, flatulence & diarrhea.
Drug Interactions
Antacids, digoxin & cyclosporin.
