Colchicine
Indications/Uses
Acute gout & for short term prophylaxis during initial therapy w/ allopurinol & uricosuric drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Gout Initially 1 mg followed by 500 mcg every 2-3 hr until relieved. Max: 6 mg. Should not be repeated w/in 3 days. W/ allopurinol or uricosuric drugs 500 mcg bid-tid.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hemodialysis; severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min). Patients w/ renal/hepatic impairment receiving P-glycoprotein or strong CYP3A4 inhibitor. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Avoid in patients w/ blood disorder. Cardiac, hepatic, GI disease. Debilitated patients. Lactation. Elderly. Not recommended for childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting & abdominal pain; diarrhoea, GI haemorrhage, skin rashes & renal/hepatic damage.
