Indications/Uses
Primary treatment & prophylaxis of pulmonary & extra pulmonary TB, usually in combination w/ other anti-TB drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 300 mg daily. Childn 5-20 mg/kg daily. Max: 300 mg daily. Intermittent therapy 10 mg/kg 3 times a wk or 15 mg/kg twice a wk.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Maybe taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort
Special Precautions
Convulsive disorders, history of psychosis, hepatic & renal dysfunction. Risk of neuropathy or pyridoxine deficiency. Diabetic, alcoholic, malnourished, uremic, pregnant or HIV-infected patients.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral & optic neuritis. Psychotic reactions & convulsions. Anemias, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia & eosinophilia. Skin eruptions, fever, vasculitis; nausea, vomiting, pellagra, purpura, hyperglycemia, lupus-like syndrome, urinary retention & gynecomastia.
Drug Interactions
Rifampicin & hepatotoxic drugs, antiepileptics, benzodiazepines, chlorzoxazone, theophylline, clofazimine, cyclosporine & warfarin.
