Hepatitis B vaccine (recombinant DNA)
Indications/Uses
Immunization against infections caused by all known subtypes of HBV.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM inj Adult & older childn 20 mcg. Childn <10 yr 10 mcg. Immunocompromised & dialysis patients 40 mcg as 2 divided doses at 2 different sites. Immunization consists of 3 doses w/ 2nd & 3rd doses 1 & 6 mth, respectively, after 1st dose.
Contraindications
Do not inj into gluteal muscle & it must not be administered IV.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Avoid immunization during severe febrile illness. Not for intradermal administration. May not prevent onset of hepatitis if HBV infection stays unrecognized. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions w/ inflammation & lymphangitis; induration or sterile abscess at inj site; fever, headache & malaise.
