Insulin requirements may be increased w/ hyperglycemic activity eg, corticosteroids, INH, certain lipid lowering drugs (eg, niacin), estrogens, OCs, phenothiazines & thyroid replacement therapy & may be decreased w/ hypoglycemic activity eg, oral hypoglycemic agents, salicylates, sulfa antibiotics, certain antidepressants (MAOIs, certain ACE inhibitors, β-adrenergic blockers, inhibitors of pancreatic function (eg, ocreotide) & alcohol. β-adrenergic blockers may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
