Type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes who are not adequately controlled by diet &/or oral hypoglycemic agents. Initial stabilization of diabetes in patients w/ diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar non-ketotic syndrome & during period of stress eg, severe infections & major surgery in diabetic patients. Gestational diabetes.
Individualized dosage. Type 1 diabetes Maintenance: 0.5-1 IU/kg. Type 2 diabetes Approx 0.3-0.6 IU/kg/day. Administer SC in the abdominal wall, thigh, gluteal region or the deltoid region.
Renal impairment. Switching to different type of insulin. Periodic measurement of glycosylated Hb for monitoring of long-term glycemic control. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
