Carboprost trometamol
Indications/Uses
Treatment of postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine atony which has not responded to conventional methods of management.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Refractory postpartum uterine bleeding Initially 250 mcg inj given in deep IM. Max: 2 mg (8 doses).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease; active cardiac, pulmonary, renal or hepatic disease.
Special Precautions
History of asthma, hypotension or HTN, CV, renal or hepatic disease, anemia, jaundice, diabetes or epilepsy; compromised (scarred) uteri; incomplete abortion; chorioamnionitis. Risk of transient pyrexia; increased BP in the postpartum hemorrhage. Carefully examine cervix post-abortion. Pregnancy. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting, diarrhea, hyperpyrexia & flushing.
Drug Interactions
May augment the activity of other oxytocic agents. Enhanced action of oxytocin.
