Ceftriaxone Na
Indications/Uses
Treatment of susceptible infections eg, chancroid, endocarditis, gastroenteritis, gonorrhea, Lyme disease, meningitis, septicemia, syphilis, typhoid fever & Whipple's disease & for surgical infection prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 g daily as single dose or in 2 divided doses. Severe infection Up to 4 g daily. Childn 50-75 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Max: 2 g. Meningitis Childn 100 mg/kg daily in 2 divided dose w/ a loading dose of 75 mg/kg. Max: 4 g. Gonorrhea Adult 250 mg as single IM dose. Surgical infection prophylaxis Adult 1 g as single dose 0.5-2 hr prior to surgery.
Special Precautions
Avoid in jaundiced neonates. Severe renal failure, impaired hepatic & renal functions. Monitor plasma conc. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, leukopenia, GI effects.
Drug Interactions
Vancomycin.
