Gatifloxacin
Indications/Uses
Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Day 1-2: Instill 1 drop 2 hrly on the affected eye(s) up to 8x daily. Day 3-7: Instill 1 drop up to qid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin or other quinolones.
Special Precautions
Do not wear contact lenses. Avoid prolonged use. Discontinue if superinfection occurs.
Adverse Reactions
Conjunctival irritation, increased lacrimation, keratitis, papillary conjunctivitis. Chemosis, conjunctival hemorrhage, dry eyes, eye discharge, eye irritation, eye pain, eyelid edema, headache, red eye, reduced visual acuity, taste disturbance.
Drug Interactions
May elevate plasma conc of theophylline, interfere w/ metabolism of caffeine, enhance effects of oral anticoagulant warfarin & its derivatives. Transient elevation in serum creatinine w/ systemic cyclosporine.
