Per dose (118 mL) Na biphosphate 19 g, Na phosphate 7 g
Indications/Uses
Constipation & for bowel evacuation before investigational procedures eg, endoscopy or radiological exam or before surgery. Promote defecation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Appendicitis; undiagnosed rectal bleeding; CHF or HTN; intestinal obstruction; dehydration. Renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Not to use when nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain & symptoms of appendicitis are present; more often than recommended; unnecessary use eg, for cold, as tonic, to clean system; if bowel movement is missed for 1 or 2 days. Avoid over & prolonged use. Pregnancy. Elderly. Not to be given in young children ≤6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Rectal irritation (rectal bleeding, blistering, burning, itching or pain).
Drug Interactions
Chronic use or overuse may cause serum K conc & may interfere K-retaining effects of K-sparing diuretics.
