Indications and Dosage
Ophthalmic
Allergic conjunctivitis Adult: As 0.5% drops: Instill 4 times daily. Oral Allergic rhinitis, Asthma prophylaxis, Eczema, Hypertrophic scar, Keloid scar Adult: 100 mg tid.
Child: 5 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. |

Special Precautions
Not intended for treatment of acute asthma attacks. Renal and hepatic impairment.

Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, malaise, skin rashes and generalised pruritus; irritation and blepharitis. Rarely, liver function disturbance or jaundice, renal dysfunction, cystitis-like symptoms, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, palpitations, oedema, facial flushing, and stomatitis.

Monitoring Parameters
Haematological monitoring is advisable.

Action
Description: Tranilast has a stabilising action on mast cells and also inhibits collagen synthesis in fibroblasts.
