Indications and Dosage
Ophthalmic
Allergic conjunctivitis
Adult: As 0.5% drops: Instill 4 times daily.

Oral
Allergic rhinitis, Asthma prophylaxis, Eczema, Hypertrophic scar, Keloid scar
Adult: 100 mg tid.
Child: 5 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses.
Special Precautions
Not intended for treatment of acute asthma attacks. Renal and hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, malaise, skin rashes and generalised pruritus; irritation and blepharitis. Rarely, liver function disturbance or jaundice, renal dysfunction, cystitis-like symptoms, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, palpitations, oedema, facial flushing, and stomatitis.
Monitoring Parameters
Haematological monitoring is advisable.
Action
Description: Tranilast has a stabilising action on mast cells and also inhibits collagen synthesis in fibroblasts.
