DM in adults, adolescents & childn from 2 yr.

Dosage/Direction for Use

SC Individualized dose. Type 2 DM Initially 10 u followed by individual dose adjustments. Type 1 DM Initially 60-70% of total daily insulin requirements once daily in combination w/ short-/rapid-acting insulin followed by individual dose adjustments.

Special Precautions

Not to be administered IV or IM. Not to be used in insulin infusion pumps. Inadequate dosing &/or discontinuation of treatment may lead to hyperglycaemia & diabetic ketoacidosis. Concomitant illness especially infections & fever; diseases affecting the adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland. Temporary worsening of diabetic retinopathy due to intensification of insulin therapy w/ abrupt improvement in glycaemic control. May cause insulin Ab to form. Transfer from other insulin medicinal products. Risk of cardiac failure in combination w/ thiazolidinediones. May impair ability to drive a car or use machines due to hypoglycaemia. Kidney or liver diseases. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn 2-5 yr.

Drug Interactions

Reduced insulin requirement w/ oral antidiabetics, GLP-1 receptor agonists, MAOIs, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids & sulfonamides. Increased insulin requirement w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, growth hormone & danazol. May mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia w/ β-blockers. Increased/decreased insulin requirements w/ octreotide/lanreotide. May intensify or reduce hypoglycaemic effect of insulin w/ alcohol.
