Indications/Uses
Chronic resp disease eg, bronchial asthma & COPD.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab bd, may be increased to tds. Elderly ½ tab bd. Syr Adult 20 mL bd. Childn 12 mg/kg daily divided into 2 doses, may be increased up to 18 mg/kg daily. Elderly 10 mL bd.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Severe hepatic insufficiency & end-stage CHF. Patients w/ active peptic ulcer. Concomitant use w/ drugs that may decrease xanthine clearance. Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants & smoking may increase clearance. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly w/ impaired hepatic functions.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, headache, irritability, insomnia, palpitations & tachycardia.
Drug Interactions
Not to be administered w/ other xanthine derivatives. Toxic synergism w/ ephedrine. Hepatic clearance may be decreased w/ erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin. clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, ranitidine, propranolol & flu vaccine.
