Action
Description: Pristinamycin is a streptogramin antibacterial which reversibly binds to 50s subunit of bacterial ribosome blocking the transpeptidation and inhibiting protein synthesis of susceptible bacteria thus inhibiting cell growth. Its spectrum of activity includes many gm+ve and some gm-ve bacteria, as well as mycoplasmas, spirochetes, chlamydias and rickettsias. It is active against staphylococci and some streptococci. N. gonorrheae and H. influenzae are sensitive. There is cross-resistance with macrolides and lincosamides.
