Ciclosporin - Ophthalmic

Patient Medicine Information
Why do I need this medicine?
Ciclosporin is used to increase tear production due to inflammation of the cornea (transparent layer in the front of the eye) and/or conjunctiva (tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the white of the eye) associated with dry eye disease.
How do I use this medicine?
Use Ciclosporin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a single-use vial/ampoule of an eye drop solution or emulsion and as a multi-dose bottle of an eye drop emulsion.

To use the eye drop solution:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the eye drops.
  2. Tilt your head slightly backwards. With the index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Look upward and instil the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
  3. Close your eyes and do not blink for a few seconds.
  4. Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a clean tissue.
  5. Discard the vial/ampoule immediately after use in both eyes.
To you use the eye drop emulsion:

  2. Turn the bottle or ampoule upside down a few times before using.
  3. Tilt your head slightly backwards. With the index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Look upward and instil the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.

  6. If you are using the multi-dose bottle, replace and tighten the cap of the bottle. If you are using the single-use ampoule, discard immediately after use.
Do not allow the tip of the dropper of this medicine to touch your eyes, eyelids or any other surface. Recap the multi-dose bottle immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.
